Sarah Palin said "Whaaaa?"

Sarah Palin created the concept of  "death panels" when health care reform cost control initiative called for reducing utilization of some high volume procedures. Where Palin came up with such a ridiculous concept is a mystery to me, but it boils down to a total misunderstanding of how health care is provided today. Insurance companies call all he shots about who gets what, and that's the truth.

Nevertheless, Palin enjoys making up her own rules about anything, just because she can.

Yet, I said "Whaaaaa?", when reading the stunning news about how the staunchly pro-life Palin came out in defense of Governor Romney's potential selection of pro-choice Condoleeza Rice as a vice-presidential running mate.

Although I seldom, if ever, agree with Palin, she gets a broken clock award for the endorsement of a non-vice-presidential candidate, like pro-choice former Secretary of State Rice. Palin can be right twice a day.

But, Palin's surprise willingness to overlook the Rice tolerant position on abortion is just another example of the endemic problem among all Republicans.  They're willing to sell their souls to gain political power. Supporting Rice would give the Republican ticket a lot of buzz but it's questionable if a Romney-Rice ticket would bear the weight of a rigorous campaign.

I admire Condoleeze Rice.  Hopefully, she's too intelligent to allow herself to be a political toy for the sake of making a power statement.  Rice is an American treasure who is qualified to be the President of the United States. Rice shouldn't lower her self respect by becoming a pawn for political power brokers. She should not be pressured into running into the juggernaut of a brutal Presidential campaign.

Palin's about face about supporting a pro-life candidate for vice-president when her political career has been as a poster mom for pro-life politics is the very reason why a Rice candidacy is just not timely.

If Condoleeze Rice wants to be a President, a Vice-President or Governor, she doesn't need Sarah Palin to anoint her.

Palin''s out of character support for Ms. Rice is understandable, given how badly Romney needs a boost after being "booed" by the NAACP, and Rice is politically correct with this voting base.

Being a good politician includes remaining close to who you are, so voters get to know you. Therefore,  this startling look aside for the Rice position on abortion is another reason not to trust Palin.
